In Notion, you can create a button that adds a page to your workspace and opens it in a new tab. This tutorial will walk you through the steps to set up this functionality with an easy-to-follow guide.
Step 1: Type /button to Bring Up the Button Feature
First, type /button in the Notion workspace to quickly access the button functionality. This will allow you to insert a button into your page.
Step 2: Set the Button’s Icon or Emoji and Change the Button’s Name
Customize your button by choosing an icon or emoji that suits your needs. You can also change the button name to something descriptive, like "Add Page" or "Open Tab."
Step 3: Click + New Action
Next, click on the + New action button to add a new action to your button.
Step 4: Select Add page to...
In the action menu, select Add page to... to set up the page creation feature.
Step 5: Click Select database to Choose the Page You Want to Add
Now, click on Select database and choose the page you want to add. This will link your button to a specific page that can be created or added when the button is clicked.
Step 6: Click + New Action Again
To add another action, click + New action again. This will allow you to set up the page opening feature.
Step 7: Select Open page, form, or URL
Now, choose Open page, form, or URL as the second action to allow the button to open the newly created page in a new tab.
Step 8: In Select page, Choose the Page You Just Added
In the Select page dropdown, choose the page you just added in Step 5. This ensures the button will open the correct page when clicked.
Step 9: Click Done
Once everything is set up, click Done to finalize your button configuration.
What Happens After You Create the Button?
After setting up your button, clicking it will allow you to preview and edit the added page. If you want to open the page in full view, simply click the Open in full page button in the top-left corner (it looks like two diagonal arrows), or use the shortcut Ctrl + Enter.
Important Notes
- Limitations: The Add page action can only add subpages. If you want to add a main page (not a subpage), consider using the Insert block method instead.
- Editing the Button: To edit the button or its actions, click on the settings icon on the right side. You can also delete the button by clicking the six small dots on the left side of the button to bring up the menu.
