While landscape orientation is common for presentations, sometimes a vertical layout works better for certain content—especially when designing for mobile screens, flyers, or specific scenarios. Changing your Google Slides to vertical is actually quite simple. Just follow these few steps, and you’ll easily adjust it to fit your needs. Let’s get started!
1. Open Your Presentation
First, open the Google Slides presentation you want to change to a vertical layout. Once you're in, click on File in the top left corner.
2. Select "Page Setup"
From the dropdown menu, choose Page setup. This is where you can adjust all your page settings, including the slide size and orientation.
3. Choose "Custom"
In the Page Setup window, you’ll see several preset options. To switch to a vertical layout, select Custom. This is where you’ll make the changes.
4. Enter the Desired Dimensions
To switch from landscape to portrait, simply swap the width and height. For example, if you want a 9:16 ratio (perfect for mobile-friendly presentations), enter 9 for the width and 16 for the height. Choose your preferred unit (inches, centimeters, etc.), and click Apply.
5. Adjust Your View if Needed
After changing to vertical, you may find the slide feels a bit cramped, especially if you’re used to the wider landscape format. Don’t worry! You can zoom in to make editing easier. Just click on the Zoom option in the top menu and adjust the view as needed.
Pro Tip: Google Slides defaults to three landscape ratios: 16:10, 16:9, and 4:3. So, if you want to keep the same dimensions but just change the orientation, simply reverse the numbers. For example, 16:9 becomes 9:16, and you’re all set!
With this simple adjustment, your presentation will be more versatile, fitting different scenarios and needs. Whether you’re designing for print, creating mobile-friendly content, or just prefer the vertical format, this change opens up new creative possibilities.
