How to get normal google slide templates back

2/24/2025

Sometimes, while working on a Google Slides presentation, you might find yourself in a situation where the design or layout doesn’t look quite right. Whether you’ve been experimenting with external templates or custom designs, restoring your slides to the default template can bring things back to a cleaner, more familiar look. Here's how you can easily do that.

1. Open the slide you want to revert to the default template.

2. Click on "Theme" in the top menu.

3. Choose your preferred default template and click to apply it.

That’s it! You’ll see your slides take on the look of the default template you selected.

Helpful Tip

  • Google Slides not only offers the well-known black and white theme but also has over 10 other simple themes to choose from.
  • If you’ve been using an external or custom template, you might encounter issues like overlapping text and images when you revert to the default theme. In such cases, right-click the problematic slide and select "Layout" to quickly change to a different layout. This will allow you to adjust things more easily before fine-tuning the placement of your content.
